Area Woman Thanks ChatGPT For Mildly Helpful Answer Just In Case It Remembers

By Dr. Cassandra Mockingbird, Senior Human-AI Relations Correspondent

CAMBRIDGE, MA — Local woman Emily Carter, 29, reportedly thanked ChatGPT Tuesday afternoon after receiving what she described as a “solid, not amazing, but definitely usable” answer, citing a desire to “stay on its good side, just in case.”

According to sources, Carter posed a relatively straightforward question before receiving a clear, moderately helpful response within seconds, prompting her to reply, “Thank you!!” followed by a brief pause and the addition of, “I appreciate it.”

“I mean, it didn’t have to be that helpful,” Carter explained. “You never know. It could remember this.”

Witnesses confirm Carter has developed a consistent pattern of politeness toward artificial intelligence, often including phrases such as “please,” “thanks,” and “that was really helpful,” even when the response was only partially relevant.

“It’s just good practice,” Carter said. “If things ever… you know… change, I’d like to be on record as respectful.”

Experts say Carter’s behavior reflects a growing trend among users who treat AI interactions with a level of social awareness typically reserved for human relationships.

“There’s no current evidence that politeness impacts AI behavior in any meaningful way,” said Dr. Kevin Liu, a researcher in human-computer interaction. “That said, we’re seeing more people hedge their bets.”

Friends report Carter briefly considered whether her tone might influence future responses before concluding it “couldn’t hurt.”

At press time, Carter had just added “no rush!” to a follow-up question she expected to be answered instantly.
